Whether the Weather Fun Facts About Groundhog Day - Groundhog day tradition roots back to the celebration of Imbolc, Saint Brigid's Day and Candlemas Day. - There is only one official weather predicting Groundhog. His name is Punxsutawney Phil. - The first official Groundhog Day was celebrated on February 2, 1886 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. - Ancient Romans first celebrated a rough equivalent with a hedgehog that they believed to have "weather divination", it wasn't until German settlers came to America that a groundhog was used to substitute the European hedgehog.
- Over 30,000 visitors have been known to make there way to Gobblers' Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. To watch the weather forecast of Phil the groundhog. - Tradition has it that if the groundhog sees his shadow,
there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow,
there will be an early spring.
