Safety News

Are you aware of CSA 2010? Although the safety and compliance requirements for carriers and drivers are not changing, the rating system and targets for enforcement are. This compliance change will affect all companies with a US DOT #, and along with our friends at J. J. Keller we at TTN would like to ensure you are informed and covered.

How CSA 2010 will measure your company:

- Company safety data is scored for the past 24 months. There is no grace period.

- All safety-based violations count, rather than just out- of- service violations.

- Violations are weighted based on time. Your most recent 6 month history is weighted the heaviest.

- Severity weights are assigned to each applicable safety- based violation.

For more information on how to get the CSA 2010 course, please contact us.

Spring Ahead -by Joel Arnold, TTNLearning

On March 14th at 2 AM, while many of us slept, the clock made its annual leap forward to accommodate Daylight Saving Time. Although it might seem like we’re losing a precious hour of sleep, we can look forward to longer hours of daylight. In fact, Daylight Saving Time was introduced during WWI to take advantage of the sunlight in order to reduce the costs of energy needed to build all the gear and weapons that were needed. After implementing this plan again for WWII, the idea – with a few exceptions – stuck.

Are you ready to ‘spring ahead’ in your life? Is there something stopping you from bounding over the obstacles impeding your way? Perhaps Daylight Saving Time is the perfect time to take a deep breath, adjust your watch, and take that giant leap forward that will get you so much closer toward reaching your goals.

Besides, you can always get that extra hour of sleep next fall!

"Loyalty cannot be blueprinted. It cannot be produced on an assembly line.
In fact, it cannot be manufactured at all, for its origin is the human heart-the center of self-respect and human dignity. It is a force which leaps into being only when conditions are exactly right for it-and it is a force very sensitive to betrayal."
                               ~
Maurice Franks

"Leadership is a two-way street, loyalty up and loyalty down. Respect for one's superiors; care for one's crew."

                      ~Grace Murray Hopper

"It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself."
                           ~Eleanor Roosevelt

~ Samuel Langhorne Clemens is the actual name of Mark Twain. Mark Twain was his pen name with which he used to write for the Keokuk Post. Before starting as a writer, Mark Twain worked as an apprentice printer, then served in the army for some time as soldier in American civil war, and then in a mine. One of the jobs for which he got recognition for other than writing was that of a lecturer. He was profoundly known for his story telling abilities and stage presence. Mark Twain was born weeks after the Halley's comet was seen and died on the same day as the Halley's comet was next seen, a span of 75 years. "Don't tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don't tell them where they know the fish."

~ The strawberry is not a fruit, it is a receptacle. California is the largest producer of strawberries with almost 20,000 acres dedicated to growing the fruit. Surprisingly the entire land of the USA is considered to be fertile for growing strawberries. If consumed in the right amount this fruit can fill in almost 20% of the human body's daily requirement for folic acid and 140% of Vitamin C. It is the only fruit with the seeds on the skin and a strawberry on  average has 200 seeds. The fruit belongs to the family of rose and has a museum dedicated to it. Strawberries are considered to be a fruit of love and flirtation. Some people believe that strawberries are symbol of Venus (Goddess of Love).

ZigOn: Making Good Choices

One foolish or careless mistake can give your life and/or career a huge setback or derail it completely. It could even cost you your health and/or your life.

As I write these words, I am thinking about all the publicity "spring break" has received over the past few weeks, in both print media and television news. Stories of young men and women who drink an excessive amount of alcohol and end up in an accident or in sexual activity leading to many of the sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies or worse. One fling, which some kids describe as a "rite of passage" or just "part of college life," can produce disastrous results.

The choices we make throughout our lives are important. You may have lived an exemplary life; been a good, productive, morally sound person with a bright future. Then an ill-advised decision: getting into a car with a stranger; drinking and driving; making unwise character choices; and it's all over.

I remember one case of a man on a career path in a large company who attended a party where much alcohol was served and consumed. He had begun a rapid rise to the top, but under the influence of the environment and too much alcohol, playfully patted the boss' wife inappropriately. His career there ended at that moment.

Message: Be careful about the choices you make, because the choices you make in life go with you wherever you are. Legendary coach John Wooden stated he wanted to know how his players practiced, but he was even more concerned about what they did between today's practice and tomorrow's practice. He recognized that what his players did away from practice had a huge impact on how they performed in practice and, consequently, in the games that counted.

Fact: What you do off the job, regardless of what the job is, plays a major role in how far you will go on the job. A good night's sleep will prepare you for a good performance at home and on the job. A drunken orgy will change the formula drastically. It could lead to long-term negative results. Even consistently staying up late will affect your performance on the job and sometimes impact relationships as a result of lack of rest, bringing on impatience, even anger. Think about it. Every choice has an end result.

As you make your choices in life, I encourage you to evaluate what will happen "if I follow through on this choice." That choice can be good and enhance every facet of your life, or it can be a bad one and inhibit or destroy your relationships, your career, and your life. Think about it. Ponder your choices. Make good ones, and I'll see you at the top!

Course Title:
Art of Abandonment

"This course is quite relevant for today's business climate. Jason reminds us that it is very important to continue to evaluate everything that we do in business to be certain that processes, strategies, tactics and even products are still current and valid."

"He points out that it is sometimes necessary to let go of "yesterday's breadwinners" if these products and strategies are not serving us well today. This course can be completed in just over 20 minutes including the test and is a "must view" for every manager."
