Rosetta Stone Launches New Content and Languages for Rosetta Stone Version 3

Leading Language-Learning Solution Adds Levels to Deepen Understanding and Command of New Language

May 11, 2009-- Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST), a leading provider of technology-based language-learning solutions, announced today that the company has introduced new content and languages for Rosetta Stone® Version 3, allowing people to unlock their natural language-learning ability. Levels 4 and 5 of Rosetta Stone Version 3 will be available to individuals, organizations, schools and homeschoolers looking to strengthen their English or Spanish (Latin America) language skills. The new levels include extended, more complex conversations and grammar, expanded vocabulary, and additional opportunities for speaking that prepare the learner for everyday interactions in their language of study.

Building on the skills previously acquired in Levels 1–3 of Rosetta Stone Version 3, Levels 4 and 5 will deepen learners’ understanding and command of the language. These new levels for Spanish (Latin America) and English will allow language learners of any age to seamlessly pick up their instruction from previous levels without a gap in their language-learning process, so they can continue to build upon their success.

Also released today, Filipino (Tagalog), Latin, Turkish and Vietnamese are now available in Levels 1, 2, and 3 of Rosetta Stone Version 3. Users will be able to learn these new languages the same way they learned their first language – with no translation. Individuals, organizations, schools and homeschoolers will now have Filipino (Tagalog), Latin, Turkish and Vietnamese at their fingertips.

“By extending the Rosetta Stone Version 3 offering to include these popular languages and new levels, we’re making it easier than ever to learn a new language,” said Tom Adams, CEO of Rosetta Stone. “Whether it’s to open new doors professionally or to sharpen your mind, learning a new language is a powerful way to invest in yourself.”

Rosetta Stone Version 3 is now available in 25 languages including: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, English (British), English (American), Filipino (Tagalog), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Spain), Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese.

Exercising the Little Grey Cells -by Joel Arnold, TTNLearning

It takes between twenty and forty minutes for me to drive to work each day – same for the commute home. So, in a fantasy world where traffic always flows smoothly and there are no gawker slowdowns or bottlenecks along the way, this would equate to being on the road (just driving to and from work, remember!) for seven days a year. Over a lifetime of employment, that’s closing in on an entire year stuck in my car – and that doesn’t even include any non-work related driving. So instead of just filling all that time with music or the often-inane banter of talk radio, I try to use much of that time to educate myself, to fill my brain with new facts, concepts and ideas. Whether listening to books on CD from the local library or TTN audio courses via MP3 files, it makes my commute feel less like a frustrating waste of time and more like I’m using my car as a learning vehicle (literally!). Of course, sometimes when traffic is barely crawling and it seems like I’ll never get home, a good ol’ dose of rock n’ roll can be good for the soul. But for the rest of the time, why not turn the commute into something positive, something to perhaps even look forward to? Use the time to learn, to feed your brain and (as Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot often says) exercise ‘the little grey cells’.

Zig On Pursuing Dreams

"Think about the following story while you consider what success means to you. As two brothers entered their adult life, one completed college and became a highly successful lawyer while the other preferred the outdoors and traveled the country working as a park ranger, outdoor tour guide, seasonal crop worker, etc. The lawyer kept writing his vagabond brother to come live in the city, settle down, and pursue a 'respectable' career. In an effort to persuade him, he would send his brother a picture of his BMW and write on the back, 'My car,' or a picture of his uptown condominium and write on the back, 'My house,' or a picture of his 40-story high rise office building with 'My office' written on the back. The other brother, finally tiring of the nonsense, put an end to the letters when he sent his lawyer brother a poster of the beautiful majestic Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming. On the back of the poster he simply wrote, 'My backyard.'"

Actually, both of these men were successful. They just had different objectives for their lives.

I suspect that most of us would prefer to follow the life of the brother who had that beautiful majestic view in Wyoming. Message: You have lots of choices. As long as they're honorable, I encourage you to pursue those which fulfill your dreams because you will never be successful or happy pursuing someone else's dream.

Debunking Social Media Myths

I recently spoke at and attended the Conversational Marketing Summit in NYC. On day two, I heard something from Brian Wallace of Blackberry that echoed thoughts I've been preaching for a while. He said "I was selling in the idea that social media is free, until the community manager headcount came in."

This underscores a fundamental truth to social media that many organizations underestimate--being social means having real live people who actively participate in your initiatives. It's difficult to automate and a challenge to scale, but it can also help move your business forward in ways that produce leveraged outcomes such as new/better products or services.

Course Title:  Mixing Four Generations in the Workplace

"Being on the senior end of the workplace scale, I find it amazing how accurate it is in the different ways various generations think, respond and communicate within the workplace. For instance, I would rather pick up the phone and talk to someone then spend time sending this email. However, with today’s communication in Facebook, Twitter, etc many prefer the quick, instant response while attempting to do other things. What is also interesting about these generations is how they each have values that differ while the way to emphasize those values must be understood. They each bring talents and strengths to the workplace which is not merely personality traits. These are real, decisive areas that when understood, accepted and recognized, will provide a much better communication environment between the various ages and generations.

This is an hour long course with pre and post assignments built into the course. However, with the engagement of the activities, it really goes quick.

Learning to understand the mixing of these generations within the workplace helps me to understand the why and the how of someone much younger and in many cases with more skills and how they go about to accomplish the same task yet differently. This is one of those courses that you want to watch more than once to see what else you can learn and immediately apply.

Back To School Gadgets

It may seem a little bit early to talk about backpacks, school notebooks and new teachers, but very soon this year's high school graduates will head off to college and kids will be back in school. That means that we as parents will be shopping for clothes, shoes, school supplies and some of the coolest 'must-have' gadgets; that will give our students that edge in becoming successful and getting the most from their education. With all the technology that is out there, we at TTN thought we would narrow down and separate the gadgets that will be the envy of the playground from the electronics that will end up shoved into the bottom of junior's closet.

The Top 10 Back To School Gadgets:

1. HP Pavilion dv6327cl Laptop:  HP's laptop has a powerful processor and big storage at a good value.  Start with a 15.4-inch display - now basically a standard in laptops - and a speedy 1.6GHz AMD chip that can handle the most processor-intensive spreadsheet thrown its way.  The computer has HP's QuickPlay software for watching DVDs or TV, or listening to music with a simple interface. It's a computer designed for academics and entertainment. It also comes with a wireless networking card and Altec Lansing speakers.

2.  iPhone:   While your kids think it is the coolest phone available, there are many applications that makes it helpful with learning and organization.

3.  Skullcandy Audio Pack:  A backpack equipped with audio speakers and controls built into the shoulder straps.  Compatible with iPods and MP3 players.

4.  Clocky:  Clocky is a clock for people who have trouble getting out of bed. When the snooze bar is pressed, Clocky rolls off the table and finds a hiding spot, a new one every day.

5.  MSI Wind Notebook:  Enjoy ultimate computing mobility with the lightweight yet power-packed MSI Wind U100 Mini Laptop, which features a 10-inch LCD screen for excellent web browsing, Intel's newest low-power processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and familiar Windows XP Home operating system.

6.  Livescribe Pulse Smartpen:  The Pulse smartpen records and links audio to what you write, so you never miss a word.

7.  LG GD910 Watch Phone:  Yep, it is phone that you wear around your wrist!  The LG Watch phone looks like a sleek, albeit somewhat large watch, and under the customizable clocks on the outside (it is a watch, after all) hides a surprisingly robust multimedia phone.

8.  The Soundshelf:  Most of the time you see speakers on shelves or speakers built into shelves, I think this might be the first speaker that actually is a shelf. It’ll hold up your books or cds (for those that still own some) and still be able to play your music loud and clear.

9.  Calculator Belt Buckle:  Let your inner geek shine... Literally! With this chrome calculator belt buckle you now have a fashionable accessories that you can wear every day and figure out complex math problems.

10.  US History Cheat Shirt:  Amaze your friends and ace any test with our U.S. History Cheat T-Shirt. Printed upside down for easy reading.  This may not be new technology, but I think everyone would agree that this would have been a helpful thing to have!
