Learning And Our Economy- by Joel Arnold,
TTNLearning
Worried about the economy? Perhaps now is a great time to
heed the words of Lee Iacocca when he said, “We are continually faced by
great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.”
Today it is as important as ever to keep an edge over the competition; to
have a team that is up-to-date on today’s skills and strategies, a team
that is able to come up with creative solutions to what at first glance
might appear to be ‘insoluble problems.’ One of the best ways to give your
business that edge is through training and continual learning. Whether you
wish to learn new techniques from today’s business leaders, or brush up on
the fundamentals, training can give you a fresh outlook, boost morale and
act as a great motivating tool.
In a recent issue of his e-zine, Chris Widener says, “Perhaps we need to
embrace desperate situations when we find ourselves in them. Instead of
reacting and panicking, we can discipline ourselves to step back, look
objectively and allow our creative juices to flow.”
Now is not just the time to survive the current changes in our
economy, but to thrive.

Look Out For Good Guy/Bad Guy.
Whenever
you are negotiating with two people look out for them using this tactic on
you. One of them appears to be mean, tough, and totally opposed to
your proposal. The other is warm, friendly, and very sympathetic.
Danger Point:
You are psychologically drawn to the Good Guy and want to please him by
making concessions.
Solution:
Counter the tactic by letting them know that you realize what they're
doing. It's such a well-known tactic that when you say to them,
"Oh come on! You're not going to play Good Guy/Bad Guy with
me, are you?" they become embarrassed that they were caught, and
will back off.
Quoted from Roger Dawson's
Secrets of Power Negotiation. Roger is one of the country's leading
experts on negotiation. His Power Negotiating courses are part of
the TTN library.
