As If! -by Joel Arnold, TTNLearning

Here’s a simple psychological trick to restore confidence, perk up an otherwise dreary day, and even increase performance. While some call it “Fake It ‘Til You Make It” I prefer the phrase “Acting As If.” Jack Canfield talks about it in The Success Principles, and I’ve heard many others advocate this method as well. Act as if you’re having a wonderful day. Tell yourself (despite the way you may actually feel at the time) “I’m having a great day!” Smile (release those endorphins!). Force yourself to feel it, feel the joy you’d experience if you were truly having a great day. Take a deep breath. Pretty soon you’ll feel your spirits lifting and your confidence returning.

Apply this to other aspects of your life. Sales lagging? Act as if you’re the top-selling salesperson on your team. Try to feel it. Really feel it. Tell yourself “I’m the best salesperson around. I’m feeling great! Just watch me make this sale!” The boost in confidence will show. You know how animals can sense fear? Well, your customers can sense confidence, too!

Act as if you’re the best mother, father, husband, wife or friend around. Act as if you’re the best chef in town, or the best teacher or student or employee or boss. If you act this way, long enough, with feeling, pretty soon it won’t be an act at all.

Zig On Doing Things Poorly

Several years ago I was teaching a Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, and made the statement "Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly--until you can do it well." The wife of our class pastor, Robert Rohm, was listening and started thinking. They had four beautiful daughters--stair-steps--I mean, to see them together was truly delightful. They were very enthusiastic and personable. Donna Rohm was listening intently and realized she had never made a serious effort to learn how to sew clothing for her little girls. She feared even trying because her mother was a perfectionist as a seamstress. When she finished a garment, you would have thought it had been purchased at Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus--it was perfect. She could look at a style in a window, commit it to memory, and reproduce the style by creating her own pattern. It was remarkable!

Donna determined she was going to give it a try. She laughingly said that her first effort was so bad it was cute and hilarious, but she had at least made a start. Her next effort showed considerable improvement. She learned to measure more carefully, cut more carefully, sew more carefully, and think each step through more thoroughly. Fast-forward two years. It's Sunday morning. Those four little girls show up looking like their dresses had been
purchased at the leading department stores--they were gorgeous! Donna was very grateful and proud because, as the wife of a minister, her clothing budget was limited. She had been unable to buy the kind of clothes she wanted her little girls to wear. When I saw them that Sunday, they were as beautifully dressed as any children I have ever seen! Yes. Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly--until you can learn to do it well!

The Magic of Self Confidence- By: John Dashfield

When times are tough and uncertain one of the most important qualities that will get you through is self-confidence. Have you noticed that people who feel confident about themselves and the future seem to get so much more out of life? Is accessing your own inner confidence more easily and often something you would like to do?

I’ve heard it said before that a lack of self-confidence is the basis of all under-achievement. Often, a lack of self-confidence causes people to doubt themselves, which results in a pessimistic outlook on life. When you access those feelings of confidence and self-assurance it becomes far easier to look to the future with optimism and enjoy life in the present, doesn’t it?

TTN TECH TIP

Some e-Learning courses popup in new windows. This means you'll need to disable all pop-up blockers to view those courses. Many times users actually have 3 or 4 different pop-up blockers installed on their computer. If you're having problems with an e-Learning course related to popups, make sure you've disabled the standard pop-up block included in the Internet Explorer settings, but also disable or uninstall any third-party toolbars you may have: Google, Yahoo, Ask, MSN, Bing, etc... They all include their own pop-up blockers, and you usually need to disable the entire toolbar from your browser before the e-Learning course will launch in a new window.

Course Title:  The Essence of Leadership

The Essence of Leadership presented by Brian Tracy is a great course. Brian teaches the 7 Key Qualities of a leader: vision, courage, integrity, responsibility, foresight, commitment to winning and cooperation, and that to become a great leader one must dwell upon those qualities. I feel it is important for everyone to learn to be a leader and develop good leadership skills. Whether someone is in a management position or not, life itself is full of opportunities to lead. In my life, I have found that good leadership skills are essential. It has been important for me to be a leader in my home, my finances and my personal life, and what kind of leader I am depends completely on the leadership skills I have developed. I highly recommend this course.
